CSPM

A Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) solution continuously checks the security settings of your cloud environment, flags problems and helps you fix them. As more systems move to the cloud, CSPM helps keep them in line with security best practice, industry regulations and your own policies. It detects misconfigurations, risky permissions, unencrypted data and other weaknesses across cloud services, giving you visibility and control in dynamic, multi-cloud environments.

Misconfiguration is one of the common causes of cloud breaches, and CSPM is built to catch it. With continuous monitoring, alerts and, where you allow it, automated fixes, security teams can find and correct issues before they are exploited. CSPM also produces audit-ready compliance reports for frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA and ISO 27001. With it in place, organizations can strengthen their cloud security posture, reduce risk exposure and protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of business data.

How CSPM works

A CSPM tool connects to your cloud accounts through read-only access and collects the settings of every resource: storage, databases, networks, identity and access, and logging. It compares those settings with a set of rules, such as the CIS benchmarks or your own policy, and lists what does not comply. Each finding is rated by risk, so the team can start with the problems that are actually exposed, such as a public storage bucket.

Common misconfigurations it finds

  • Storage buckets or databases open to the public
  • Administrator accounts without multi-factor authentication
  • Overly broad permissions given to users and services
  • Logging and encryption switched off
  • Security groups that allow traffic from anywhere
  • Unused accounts and old access keys

CSPM and related tools

CSPM looks at the cloud account. CWPP protects the workloads that run in it, CNAPP combines both with application security, and DSPM focuses on the data. For many businesses CSPM is the first of these to adopt, because misconfiguration is the quickest problem to find and fix.

Getting started

Connect your main cloud accounts with read-only access and review the first report with the people who own each account. Fix the findings that expose data first, then permissions, then the rest. Decide who is responsible for each account, and which fixes can be automated and which need approval. Review the results regularly, because cloud settings change every day.

FAQs

CSPM is a security tool that continuously checks your cloud accounts for misconfigurations, risky permissions and policy violations, ranks them by risk and helps you fix them.

An audit is a one-time review. CSPM checks continuously, so new problems are found soon after they appear. Many businesses use an audit to start and CSPM to keep control.

Most CSPM products cover AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and some add others. Coverage differs by product, so we check yours first.

Many tools can, if you allow it, but automatic fixes are usually limited to low-risk changes. Most teams review fixes first, because a wrong change can break a service.

CSPM usually reads configuration settings, not the contents of your data. Access is normally read-only, and you should check what each product collects before connecting it.

Yes. We work from our base in Sharjah with businesses in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. Most of the work can be done remotely, and we arrange site visits where they are needed.
